Wheelhouse, Memmingen

client City of Memmingen

The historic wheelhouse in Memmingen, an important secular building from 1405, was extensively examined and renovated. With its dimensions of 50 m long, 8 m wide and 12 m high and the extension of 1708, the listed building was a major static challenge. A three-dimensional, iterative recalculation of the bracing of the building led to the construction of additional pile-supported bracing rods in the rear courtyard in order to ensure stability. The renovation of the collar beam roof, the half-timbered structure of the south facade and the vaults on the ground floor safeguard the long-term preservation of the structure.
