Tithe Barn, Engishausen

client Franz Xaver Anton Fackler

The listed tithe barn in Engishausen from the 18th century had considerable damage, including deformation and destruction of the roof truss and the coping of the eaves, and large areas of cracks and defects in the masonry walls. Previous measures for reducing the load were insufficient, meaning that a scaffold was needed to support the tithe barn, which was at risk of collapsing. During the renovation, numerous beam ends which had been damaged by rot were repaired, and reinforcements with steel profiles and suspension were integrated. The goal was to preserve as much of the existing timber as possible. An appropriate repair solution was worked out to achieve this. Among other things, beams were statically reinforced for the new usage (office rooms in the attic). The mainly static reinforcement measures in the roof truss were designed as invisible solutions, and in order to guarantee the stability, a bracing system was implemented inside the structure.
