The structure check and recalculation show that the Danube Bridge, which was built in 1954 using cantilever construction, requires action in the form of a replacement new build in the medium term (< 10 years). A main influential factor is the fatigue strength of the tendon couplings. In order to guarantee the functionality during this period, a monitoring system was installed with which the fatigue load that is actually present is determined at the coupling points. Evaluation of the measurement data could allow statements to be made about the anticipated residual lifetime of the structure, so that the number of fatigue-related vehicles could be restricted.
