An innovative supporting structure consisting of reinforced concrete box girders was chosen for the Lahntal bridge which combines aesthetics and functionality. The varying support widths and the structure height provide an optimum balance between lightness and stability. The height of the structure increases in the vicinity of the crossmember box cuts, and reaches its maximum height in the span above the Lahn river. Because of the demanding substrate made from schistose rock, a deep foundation with large bored piles was implemented in order to guarantee maximum stability and safety.
